01What we do

Three crafts, one game

A good game needs a story worth following, play that feels fair and fun, and technology nobody notices. We work on all three together, from the first draft to the last patch.

In-game dialogue: a barista behind the counter, a young guard and an old man in a flat cap, with four answers to choose from.Dialogue

Story & characters

Plots that hold together, characters with a voice of their own and dialogue with good comic timing. We also direct the cutscenes and the voice acting.

  • Plot and structure, act by act
  • Characters and dialogue
  • Cutscene direction
  • Voice acting and dubbing
In-game: a guard at night by an iron gate, with the verb wheel open on a sentry box.Verb wheel

Game design

Puzzles that are tricky but fair, controls you learn in a minute, a pace that keeps you playing and a tone that makes you smile.

  • Mechanics and controls
  • Pacing and difficulty

The engine and the code that run the game in the browser and on the phone, with the content kept apart from the engine so the story can grow.

  • Engine and development
  • Web browser and phone
  • Content separate from the engine
  • Accounts, payments and stats
  • Art, audio and video pipelines

Every part of a game is in the hands of people who do that job, side by side from day one.

03How a game is made

From a blank page to launch day

Six stages, each ending with something you can read, see or play. Ideas change along the way, and the plan is there to make change easy.

  1. Stage 01

    Story and storyboard

Who, where and why. The plot is written act by act and sketched as a storyboard before anything is built.

  2. Stage 02

    Puzzle map

Every puzzle on one map: what you need, where you find it and what it unlocks, so nobody gets stuck for the wrong reason.

  3. Stage 03

    Playable prototype

Rough drawings, real gameplay. If it is not fun with sketches, it will not be fun later.

  4. Stage 04

    Art, audio and film

Painted backgrounds, characters, music, voices and cutscenes arrive scene by scene.

  5. Stage 05

    Tests with real players

People who have never seen the game play it. We watch where they laugh and where they get stuck.

  6. Stage 06

    Release and updates

The game goes live, and we keep polishing, fixing and adding.

Questions we often get

Something else on your mind? Write to our studio. A real person reads every message and replies by email.

Yes. It is a branch of Ethere Inc. with its own specialists: writers, game designers and developers. You work with Ethere Inc., as for any of our services.

Do you work on games for other companies?

Yes, on selected projects: story and game design, technical development or a complete game. Tell us about your idea and we will tell you honestly whether we are the right fit.

Which platforms do you build for?

Our latest title runs in the web browser, on computers and on phones held sideways, with nothing to install. Tell us where your game needs to run and we will tell you what we can do.
